Success in the Highlands

John Farquhar Munro comfortably held his Scottish Parliamentary seat while in the first elections to the Highland Council by single transferable vote Independents won 35 seats, the Liberal Democrats won 21, SNP 17 and Labour 7 . Although this means that Independents have lost overall control it certainly shows that they can still do well under STV.

On the Black Isle itself four councillors were elected. Two independents, one SNP and David Alston for the Scottish Liberal Democrats. Election anoraks who are interested in how the STV vote was calculated can see the details here.
